It’s TTT time! Today’s prompt made me go through my Goodreads TBR. I decided to look at books I’ve added a very long time ago that fall within horror and gothic literature. As usual, Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl hosts these weekly challenges (so, see her blog for more info). So, without much further ado, here is my list of books that have been on my TBR for wayyyyyyy too long.
Horror books I am almost too embarrassed to admit I haven’t read
by H.P. Lovecraft
by Washington Irving
by Shirley Jackson
by Stephen King
by Ira Levin
by William Peter Blatty
by Daphne du Maurier
by Marc Z. Danielewski
by Grady Hendrix
by John Ajvide Lindqvist
My goal after writing this post is to read Let The Right One In soon as it actually fulfills one of my Popsugar reading challenges. In fact, I already requested it from the library. I also have House of Leaves, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Stand on my bookshelf. as well as The Exorcist on my Kindle. So those should obviously be next. The Stand could also be used for the Popsugar challenge but is a very long book and I may not be able to finish this on time. Which of these would you recommend I should pick up soon?
What is on your backlist?
Great list! My top ten Halloween post last week was for horror books on my TBR. Three of the books on your list were also on my list (Rosemary’s Baby, My Best Friend’s Exorcism, and Let the Right One In). I have read a few on your list – The Haunting of Hill House is a favorite book of mine and The Stand is one of my favorites by Stephen King.

I watched the Netflix series recently and while I know it’s not like the book, it reminded me I need to read it. The Stand has been on my TBR for a very long time but it’s difficult for me to commit to such long books when I am trying to fulfill my reading challenges 🙂

It’s hard to make time to really get into the long books, and so many of King’s books are long. I’m slowly working my way through The Dark Tower series now, and the books seem to get longer and longer.

I didn’t realize House of Leaves was a horror story. I mostly had it on my TBR because of the unusual format, but now I’m even more intrigued. Good luck with your TBR!

I haven’t read any of these books, but I have seen several of the adaptations. Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist terrified me, when I was younger.

Rebecca is so good! One of my favorites from last year. I used to read a lot of Stephen King as a teenager, but not so much anymore!

I’m going to have to push Rebecca to the top of my TBR 🙂

I’ve only read two from your list – The Stand and Rosemary’s Baby. Rosemary’s Baby was one I read so long ago that I don’t really remember much about it anymore. It was definitely sinister, though. The Stand is one that, although it’s been years since I read it, I remember so much about. It’s a seriously long book, but so easy to get invested in. As a side note, the TV mini-series was quite good, too! 🙂

I am going to read The Stand in December I think. I’ll committ the month to it. I do want to watch the mini series. I have heard from others it’s good. Thanks for your input.

Once I see The Haunting of Hill House, I immediately have to think of the Netflix show since there’s so much hype surrounding it. I saw the first episode.. and.. lasted about fifteen minutes? I swear I’m the biggest wuss ever.. Don’t think I’d be able to read the book. :’)
